Broker Appointed to Appalachian State University's Board of Trustees

RALEIGH, NC - July 25, 2013 - NAI Carolantic Realty's President, James M. Barnes, SIOR was recently appointed to the Appalachian State University's Board of Trustees. The appointment was officially made by the UNC Board of Governors. As one of three newly appointed Trustees, Barnes will serve a four-year term that began on July 1st. Other appointees included Lee Barnes of Durham and Charles Murray of Winston-Salem. "For over 40 years, Appalachian has been an integral part of the North Carolina University System and I am honored to serve the University in this capacity. The ASU faculty and students have made many significant contributions over the years, and I look forward to helping them continue to build future leaders," said Barnes.

Barnes has been a commercial real estate broker for over 22 years and has been President of NAI Carolantic since 2001. He is a specialist in Class "A" office leasing and sales, and has been involved in over $80 million of transactions just over the last three years with total transactions exceeding over one million square feet. He provides exclusive tenant, buyer and landlord representative services to local, corporate and investment companies, and has represented large Class "A" office developments in Cary, Downtown Raleigh and North Raleigh.

In 2011, Barnes was named Commercial Realtor of the Year by the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors (TCAR) and was given a 2012 National Commercial Award for outstanding achievement in the commercial real estate industry by the National Association of Realtors. He is member of the TCAR Million Dollar Sales Club and Million Dollar Office Leasing Club. Barnes also qualified as a Top Performer by NAI Global based on production in 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2008. In 2011, Barnes, along with Stroud, was presented with the NAI Global Deal of the Year for selling over $600 million in notes for a major NC bank.

Barnes currently serves on the NAI Global Leadership Board, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Boy Scouts Occoneechee Council Board. He is a 1984 ASU graduate and chairs the Appalachian State Board of Visitors where he is a founding member. He is also a member of the ASU Athletic Yosef Club and a supporter of many directives within the University. He and his wife, Cotten, have three children.
